Hey there, Hal Kearney, Radcliffe's Run/Walk. This morning we're going to do a one-mile test run review on the Altra Experience Flow 3. Check back with us and see how it goes.
Okay, one-mile shoe review is in. The Experience Flow 3 was very smooth. It's actually built on one of the 4 mm drop silhouettes for Altra, and for those of you who don't know, the drop is the height of the heel versus the height of the forefoot. So, in this instance, it is a 32-millimeter stack in the heel, 28 in the front. In other words, 4 millimeters heel-to-toe.
What that does, gives you a little bit more balanced feel through the midfoot and gives you a nice propulsion piece off. The highest stack I've seen in an athletic shoe is 12 millimeters. 10 seems to be pretty consistent, and the sweet spot right now in the industry seems to be 8mm and 6mm. 4 millimeters if you want to feel a little bit more of the ground, a little more of a barefoot type of philosophy.
These are not a barefoot shoe, it’s almost a max cushion built on a very low stack. So, it's actually a, a very fun, great ride. The outsole shows the spread of the forefoot muscles and bones. So Altra's natural foot shape actually gives you enough space in the front to allow those toes to expand and be able to propel you into the stride as opposed to being in a very tight, concerning shape. So overall, two thumbs up. Felt really good, very smooth.
